The Department of Special Education at Ball State University invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor in Special Education with a desired start date of August 17, 2018. Primary responsibilities include teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels on special education law and policy as well as courses related to at least one secondary area of expertise. Supervision of practicum students, student teaching, advising students, program oversight and coordination of the director of special education program, conducting research, and service on department, college, and university committees also is required.

Description

The Department of Special Education has a tenure-track position available August 17, 2018 with primary expertise in special education law and policy. Responsibilities include teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels on special education law and policy as well as courses related to at least one secondary area of expertise. Supervision of practicum students, student teaching, advising students, program oversight and coordination of the director of special education program, conducting research, and service on department, college, and university committees also is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate or provide evidence of ABD status (Doctorate must be completed by date of employment) and minimum of three years of professional teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Earned doctorate with emphasis in special education law and policy and additional years of teaching experience in public and/or private schools. Secondary expertise in at least one of the following areas: high incidence or low incidence disabilities, secondary education and transition, and assessment. Prior experience as a Director of Special Education services also is preferred. Evidence of scholarly productivity, including published articles, books, professional presentations. Technology skills related to teaching and learning, experience teaching online and blended courses and experience using innovative emerging media technologies in special education.

Department Information

The Department of Special Education is housed within Teachers College. There are currently 13 tenure-track faculty and 20 full-time contract faculty within the department. Seven tenure-track and 17 contract faculty are affiliated with the programs in ABA and Autism.
