The College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) at Ball State University has a rich 50-year history in community engaged, professionally grounded, innovative and impactful design education. The Department of Architecture offers undergraduate and graduate architecture programs that emphasize the education of architecture students through design studio, immersive and experiential learning, design computation, digital fabrication, engagement with social and environmental justice issues, and critical practice in pursuit of preparing the next generation of leaders in architecture. The Department of Architecture at Ball State University inspires students to engage the discipline of architecture with an innovative confidence that emerges from the grounding of a rigorous professional education. In addition to undergraduate and graduate architecture degrees programs, the department offers a Masters of Science in Historic Preservation (MSHP); graduate certificate programs in Historic Preservation, Digital Design and Fabrication, and Social + Environmental Justice; undergraduate minors in Historic Preservation, and Social + Environmental Justice. Allied disciplines within the college include Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Construction Management, Interior Design, and Urban Design. Description

The Department of Architecture seeks faculty candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor for a tenure-track faculty position available starting August 17, 2018. Candidates will be able to teach in the area of professional practice, demonstrating leadership and disciplinary innovation in critical architectural practice including conventional and unconventional models of practice (such as emerging, integrated, collaborative, or socially-aware practice). Candidates will be interdisciplinary in teaching, applied in research focus, and knowledgeable of architects’ practice management considerations as well as interrelationships with stakeholders including clients, consultants, collaborators, private companies, community organizations, and the manufacturing and construction industry. Candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethical imperatives, social and environmental impact, and civic outreach in nurturing a reflective, creative, and professional culture. The candidate will be responsible for teaching both undergraduate and graduate architecture students in this area of professional practice as well as contributing to design studio; coordinating internship opportunities and experiences; developing productive scholarship; and participating in university/professional service.

Minimum Qualifications

Professional degree in architecture from an accredited institution or a master’s degree in architecture or a closely related field from an accredited institution (before date of appointment); academic or professional experience in one or more areas of architectural practice.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional architectural license; doctorate degree from an accredited institution; evidence of excellence in teaching within an architectural curriculum; evidence of productive scholarship (research/creative work) with an active research, grant solicitation and publication agenda; track record in professional practice and service.
